About Jackie

Jackie's vision is to improve the financial literacy in her community one budget at a time.

Hello, my name is Jackie and I am the founder of The Simple Budget. As an author and personal budgeting expert, I am committed to empowering people to take charge of their finances. My mission is to simplify budgeting for individuals and small businesses, so that they can reduce their stress levels and enjoy their lives to the fullest.

What made you decide to go into business?
When my husband and I bought our first home, we signed a 30-year loan contract, and I couldn't help but think, "Is that it? Just pay off the house?? By then I'll be 53!" Should we make extra repayments or invest in shares and other investments? And what about super? This sparked my curiosity about personal finance. I decided to enroll at Griffith University with the intention of only taking three or so subjects that interested me in personal finance (I was working in a laboratory at the time and had just finished my Diploma of Applied Science in Biotechnology). However, I ended up enjoying it so much that I completed the full commerce degree and have been working in the field since 2007.

Having a passion for personal finance, I noticed that many people, regardless of income or education, struggle with managing their money. So, I began helping friends and family set up budgets on scraps of paper. From there, I went on to write my first book, The Simple Budget, and created a budgeting workbook and developed a half day budgeting workshop.

It's a great feeling to know that I have been able to assist people in gaining a better understanding of their finances and creating budgets that work for them. This sense of accomplishment brings me immense pride, joy, and satisfaction and is what drives me to continue helping others.
